Know what a weld or cut costs before you quote it. Running cost per metre and per job for MMA, MIG/FCAW, TIG and SAW welding and for plasma and oxy-fuel cutting on mild steel. Every assumption is listed below the result.
Deposition rate refills from the current when you change the process or current; type your own value to override it. Gas price helper: cylinder refill price ÷ usable gas (a 47 L cylinder at 150 bar ≈ 7 m³).
Estimated welding running cost: consumables, gas or flux, electricity and welder time. Not included: base material, cutting and edge preparation, inspection, repair, machine ownership and profit.

m / hour = metres of this joint finished per hour of production time (arc time plus normal stops); kg / hour = weld metal deposited per production hour. Each process uses its default current, deposition, efficiency and arc-on time with your rates; edit the Advanced section to tune the selected process.
Repeated jobs? Mechanised travel can improve consistency and reduce manual torch handling. The Automation tab shows a scenario built from editable assumptions (operating factor, setup, speed); treat it as illustrative and confirm with a trial on your own job. No saving is guaranteed and an operator is still needed.

Weld metal = cross-section area × length × 7.85 g/cm³ (mild steel). Fillet and lap area = leg²/2; square butt area = t × root gap + 1.5 × t (face and root beads); single-V butt area = (t − root face)² × tan(angle/2) + root gap × t; double-V uses half the groove depth on each side. Both are increased by the reinforcement percentage.
Arc-on time = weld metal ÷ deposition rate. Production time = arc-on time ÷ operator arc-on % + setup time per job + handling time × number of joints (both optional). Machine duty cycle is a separate rating and is not used here.
Consumable = weld metal ÷ deposition efficiency (stub ends, spatter and slag; flux-cored wire is lower than solid because part of the wire becomes slag). Gas = flow × arc-on time. SAW flux = wire × flux ratio. Electricity = V × A × arc-on time ÷ machine efficiency.
Figures are estimates for budgeting and process comparison. Confirm with a trial weld on your job.
Estimated cutting running cost: gas or plasma consumables, electricity and operator time. Not included: plate, marking and nesting, edge dressing, inspection, machine ownership and profit.

Comparison uses each process’s typical speed, gas use and operating factor for this thickness with your rates.

Torch-on time = cut length ÷ cutting speed + pierces × pierce time. Production time = torch-on time ÷ operating factor + setup.
Plasma consumables = (torch-on minutes + pierces × pierce-wear allowance) ÷ set life × set price. The pierce-wear allowance (default 0.5 min per pierce) is an illustrative modelling assumption, editable under cutting rates; real wear depends on starts, piercing technique, torch and air quality. Electricity = arc V × A ÷ machine efficiency + compressor kW, × torch-on time.
Oxy-fuel gas = oxygen m³/h and fuel use × torch-on time. Typical speeds and gas use come from manufacturer cutting charts for mild steel and are refilled when you change thickness; measured values from your own torch override them.

Takes the job you entered on the Welding or Cutting tab and shows what changes if a Cruxweld machine does it instead of a man with a torch. Three questions are enough; the detailed figures are optional.
Typical mechanised figures are filled in. Replace them with your measured values or with the figures from a Cruxweld trial on your job.
