CNC plasma cutting for fabrication: panels, signboards, brackets and base plates

Two jobs that pay back a portable CNC cutter quickly: repeating decorative panels in thin sheet, and brackets and base plates nested on thicker plate. Cut from a program, so piece 100 matches piece 1.

Application 01

Decorative panels, jali and signboards (thin sheet)

Gate and railing infill panels, jali screens, shop signboards and name plates. Lots of small holes and curves in one sheet. By hand this takes hours with uneven results; from a CNC program every opening is the same.

From the cost calculator

₹13 per metre of cut

Job as entered in the calculator: 3 mm MS sheet, 6 m of cut and 30 pierces per panel × 5 panels, plasma at 3000 mm/min (the DynaCut ProX maximum plasma speed). Assumptions: 100 A air plasma, 35% operating factor, 90 min consumable life plus the calculator’s pierce-wear allowance (editable), no setup time; illustrative Indian rates (Oct 2026): electrode + nozzle set ₹250, labour ₹175/h, power ₹8/kWh. Result: about ₹376 for the job, 0.6 hours. The many pierces, not the cut length, set the cost on a jali.

What the job needs

  • Material: MS or stainless sheet, typically 1–6 mm
  • A plasma power source sized for your thickness (we match one in the quotation)
  • The pattern drawn in FastCAM, or picked from the 96 built-in shapes
  • A slat table that supports the sheet and lets small parts drop clear

Good to know

  • Arc-voltage torch height control with ohmic sensing keeps the torch at the right height on thin, slightly wavy sheet.
  • Repeatability of ±0.2 mm means every panel in a batch fits the same frame.
  • Mirror and array functions repeat one design across the sheet without redrawing.
Application 02

Brackets, gussets and base plates (6–20 mm plate)

Column base plates with anchor holes, gussets, lifting lugs and machine brackets. The CNC nests many parts on one plate to cut scrap, and cuts the holes in the same setup, so there is no marking out or drilling for most parts.

What the job needs

  • Material: MS plate, 6–20 mm with plasma (plasma covers 1–30 mm; oxy-fuel 5–110 mm for thicker plate)
  • A plasma power source rated for your thickest plate
  • Parts nested in FastCAM and loaded by USB
  • Plate up to 1500 mm wide; length 3000 mm, or 6000 mm with the extended rail

Good to know

  • Plate alignment on the controller corrects for a sheet that is not placed perfectly square.
  • For plate wider than 1500 mm or thicker than 30 mm with plasma, a gantry CNC machine is the better fit.

From the cost calculator

₹13 per metre of cut

Job as entered in the calculator: 12 mm MS plate, 1600 mm of cut and 2 pierces per plate (outline plus centre hole) × 20 plates, plasma at 1200 mm/min. Assumptions: 100 A air plasma, 35% operating factor, 90 min consumable life plus the calculator’s pierce-wear allowance (editable), no setup time; illustrative Indian rates (Oct 2026): electrode + nozzle set ₹250, labour ₹175/h, power ₹8/kWh. Result: about ₹423 for the job, 1.3 hours.

Workflow

From drawing to cut parts

The same four steps for panels and base plates.

  1. STEP 1Draw or pickDraw the part in FastCAM or pick a shape from the library.
  2. STEP 2Nest and loadNest parts on the sheet and load the program by USB.
  3. STEP 3Align and trialAlign to the plate and use trial run to check the path without cutting.
  4. STEP 4Cut and deburrCut, let parts cool, then knock off dross with a chipping hammer or grinder.

DynaCut ProX at a glance

A portable CNC cutter that runs plasma or oxy-fuel on the same rails. The CNC drive unit runs on 220 V / 110 V single phase, so it can work where a large three-phase gantry cannot be installed.

Questions buyers ask

Is the plasma power source included?

It depends on the package you choose. The CNC drive unit with FastCAM is the base; our technical team matches a plasma power source to your thickest plate and lists it in the quotation.

Can it cut stainless steel?

Yes, with plasma: mild steel and stainless steel from 1 to 30 mm.

How do I work out the cost per metre of cut?

Open the cost calculator, choose Cutting and Plasma, enter plate thickness, cut length and your own rates. It also compares plasma with oxy-fuel for the same plate.

What if my plate is wider than 1500 mm?

The DynaCut ProX cuts up to 1500 mm wide. For wider plate or multi-torch work, ask our team about a gantry CNC cutting machine.

Send us a drawing, we will suggest the setup

Share a sketch or DXF of your part, the plate thickness and quantity. Our technical team replies with the right cutting setup and a quotation.
