Overview
Capacitor Discharge Stud Welder for Thin Sheet Metal
A capacitor discharge stud welder is the fastest way to fix a threaded stud, pin or tapped boss to sheet metal when the far side must stay clean. The CDS10M is CRUXWELD’s compact CD unit for panel builders, enclosure and kitchen-equipment manufacturers, HVAC fabricators and sign makers.
Instead of drilling, tapping, riveting or spot-welding a nut, the operator presses a stud against the sheet with the hand gun and pulls the trigger. The capacitor bank discharges in 1–3 milliseconds through the small tip on the end of the stud; the tip vaporises, an arc forms across the whole stud face, and the gun spring pushes the stud into the molten surface. The joint is finished before heat can travel through the sheet — so there is no burn-through, no distortion and no discolouration on the show face.
The machine runs from an ordinary 220 V single-phase socket, draws under 0.8 kW, recharges in less than 3 seconds and weighs 32 kg, so it works on a bench or beside the assembly line.
✓
Clean back face
Weld time of 1–3 ms means the reverse of the sheet stays unmarked — no grinding, filling or repainting.
⚙
No drilling, no rework
One trigger pull replaces drill, tap, nut and the rejects that come with them.
●
Four materials
Mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium and brass studs on matching sheet.
⚡
Single-phase power
220 V, 50/60 Hz, ≤0.8 kW — no three-phase connection required.
How it works
What Happens Inside the CDS10M
1
Charge
A 141,000 µF capacitor bank charges to the set voltage (30–200 V DC) in under 3 seconds. The display shows the charge level.
2
Contact
The operator loads a stud into the collet, presses the gun square to the sheet and the stud’s ignition tip touches the surface.
3
Discharge
On the trigger, the stored 2500 J releases in 1–3 ms: the tip vaporises, the arc melts the full stud face and a thin layer of sheet.
4
Plunge
The gun spring drives the stud into the molten pool; the joint freezes instantly. Load the next stud — up to 25 welds a minute.
Because the energy comes from the capacitors, not the mains, the weld is identical every time regardless of supply fluctuation — and the sheet never sees more heat than the single pulse delivers. Set the charging voltage once for a given stud size and material, and the operator simply keeps loading studs.
Why buyers choose it
Four Problems the CDS10M Removes
💡
“The back of my panel shows every weld.”
CD welding finishes before heat crosses the sheet. Painted, polished and stainless show-faces stay clean.
⏱
“Drilling and tapping is killing my cycle time.”
Up to 25 studs a minute, no holes, no nuts, no second operation.
⚖
“Every operator gets a different result.”
Energy is set on the dial, not in the operator’s hand — the same joint from the first weld to the thousandth.
🔌
“I only have single-phase power.”
220 V, under 0.8 kW. It plugs in where a drilling machine plugs in.
Key features
What You Get With the CDS10M

Continuously adjustable charging voltage — dial in the energy for each stud size and material.
⏱
Under 3 s recharge
The bank is ready again before the operator has loaded the next stud.
✓
Contact weld mode
Simple, reliable contact-start process with a hand-held gun; no ferrules, no gas, no flux.
📦
Class H, air cooled, 32 kg
Compact 480 × 220 × 300 mm cabinet that sits on the bench or moves to the job.
Operation
Four Steps to a Finished Stud
1
Set the energy
Select the charging voltage for the stud diameter and material from the setting chart supplied with the machine.
2
Load the stud
Fit the correct collet, push the stud in until it seats, and adjust the foot so the ignition tip just touches the sheet.
3
Weld
Hold the gun square to the surface, pull the trigger, and hold still until the discharge is complete (milliseconds).
4
Check and continue
Bend-test the first stud of a batch; then keep loading — the machine recharges in under 3 seconds.

WHAT SIZE OF THREADED BRAZING PIN (M10 – M12)
Just bought a CDS12M for reselling in North America, accommodation and shipping was impressive, thanks to good pre-sales team.
We are ready to experiment the After sales service, we’ll keep you posted.
We bought our 1st unit CDS12M, good looking machine.
Unless we receive a North American power supply soon we’ll have to return the equipment.
