The CRUXWELD CDS12M is a CD stud welding machine that stores 3500 joules in a 180,000 µF capacitor bank and releases it in a single 1–3 ms pulse — welding studs and pins from M3 to M12 onto mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium and brass sheet with no gas, no flux and no mark on the back. It recharges in under 3 seconds, runs on 110 V or 220 V single phase and weighs 36 kg.

A CD stud welding machine fixes a threaded stud, pin or boss to sheet metal in a single trigger pull — no drilling, no tapping, no nut on the back. The CDS12M is CRUXWELD’s higher-capacity capacitor discharge model: with 3500 J of stored energy it reaches M12 studs on steel while still welding M3 pins on thin aluminium, and its 40-studs-per-minute cycle keeps up with a production line.
Because the weld takes 1–3 milliseconds, heat never travels through the sheet. The show face stays flat and unmarked, painted and polished panels need no rework, and thin sheet welds without burn-through.
The 180,000 µF bank charges to the set voltage (35–200 V DC) in under 3 seconds. One dial sets the energy for the stud size and material.
The operator loads a stud into the chuck and presses the gun square to the sheet so the stud’s ignition tip touches the surface.
On the trigger, 3500 J releases in 1–3 ms: the tip vaporises, an arc melts the whole stud face and a skin of the sheet.
The gun spring drives the stud into the molten pool and the joint freezes instantly — a full-face weld stronger than the stud. Load the next one.
The process follows the capacitor-discharge method described in the international stud welding standards: because the energy is metered by the capacitors rather than the mains, every weld is identical regardless of supply fluctuation, and a bend test on the first stud of a batch confirms the setting for the whole run.
A CD stud welding machine welds studs that carry a small ignition tip on the weld face; the CDS12M welds the standard range in all four materials:
Threaded studs M3–M12Internally threaded bossesInsulation pins & nailsPipe insulation nailsPlain pinsMild steelStainless steelAluminiumBrass / copper-plated
Thin sheet upwards in steel; aluminium and brass need a clean, oxide-free surface and the matching stud material. Our technical team will confirm stud and chuck sizes for your parts.
The CDS12M CD stud welding machine ships as a complete working kit; chuck sizes and cable lengths for your order are confirmed on the quotation.
Optional: additional chucks, extended cables, CD studs, pins and insulation nails.
Which CRUXWELD stud welder? Studs up to M10 on thin sheet — the CDS10M. Up to M12 at production speed — the CDS12M (this page). Structural studs and shear connectors M6–M25 on plate — the CDS-2500 drawn arc stud welder. See the full range on our products page.
