A pneumatic rod butt welder joins two rods end to end using resistance heat and air-powered force. The rod ends are clamped in copper jaws, the welding current heats the joint faces to a plastic state, and the pneumatic system pushes the ends together (the upset) to forge a solid joint without filler wire, rod or gas.
